Natural Hair Dye Does Exist

When it comes to dying your hair, you may not want to deal with many of the harsh chemicals found in most hair dye.  natural-hair-dyeThese chemicals can fry your hair, making it impossible to get it re-colored without bleaching it or stripping the color out in some other way that is, quite frankly, very damaging to your hair.  In fact, if you repeatedly dye your hair using these chemicals, you can actually permanently damage your hair follicles.  Many people, then, elect to use natural hair dye, but it can be difficult to find.

However, there are actually some ways to naturally dye your hair that you may not think about.  These methods use products you may already have around the house, in fact!  Natural hair dye doesn’t always mean you must buy a special product.

•    If you want a reddish tint to your hair, comb cranberry juice through it.  Beet juice can also be used to make your hair redder.

•   Henna can be used to dye your hair brown or even black.  For black dye, mix brown and indigo blue henna.

•    Cinnamon can be used to brighten up hair, especially brunette and red hair.

•    To add highlights to blonde hair, use a mixture of chamomile tea and lemon juice.

Of course, natural hair dye products do exist.  If you’re looking for one of these, check out products made by companies like Aubrey Organics, Avalon Organics, and Simply Organic.

    Hi Caroline
Temporary hair dyes CAN stain lighter shades, whether they are highlights or not, so be careful. That is not saying it will happen in your situation but be prepared just in case.
    Take care.

I have straight jet black hair, and I want to dye sections of it a bright neon green with temporary spray-on dye. My experience has been that it’s bright for an hour but quickly fades. Is there a way around bleaching the sections first?

    Thanks!

I have never dyed my hair. I want to try a temp dye but I am deathly afraid that it won’t wash out. I have light/medium brown hair with natural highlights and I love my hair color. Will I get my hair back after the dye is gone or will it never be my natural hair color again?

    Hi Amanda
It really depends what color hair dye you are planning to use. It often depends on the brand you use, but in general temporary hair dyes should wash out from 1-2 months if you average 2-3 washes per week.
If in doubt though, my advice would be to leave your hair as is; especially if you love it so much in its natural color.
Hope this helps a bit :)
